How to learn Spanish in 5 steps
Do you want to learn Spanish quickly and effectively this new year? What’s the best way to do it?
At Linguarte, today we give you some tips to speak Spanish without frustrations. Let’s get started!
Realistic Plan
We all want to learn a new language fast. But is it possible? Yes, but we need a plan. And a realistic plan. That’s why speaking a language perfectly in a month is not common unless you have an exceptional memory. So, it’s better to have a plan with short-term goals, for example: personal information or describing your day. Start with a few phrases and words. And, of course, practice them verbally. At the end of this, it’s good to celebrate and be satisfied with using the language and communicating, even if it’s just a little. Finally, since we are all different, some people are more auditory, others are visual, or others need movement, it’s important to adapt your plan according to your learning style or personality type. That way, you can use movies, music, dance, or cooking in your learning process.
Practice Little but Regularly
After having your plan ready, it’s important to put it into practice by studying. A false idea is that we need to study many hours or intensively. In reality, it’s more important to study a little and regularly. Why? Because it’s easier to memorize what we see frequently. And how do you do it exactly? You can study or practice for just 5 or 10 minutes every day. Perfect for our busy lifestyle. This way, you can listen to a song, read a short text, talk to a friend during a break at work, or when you travel home. This is much more effective than studying for 2 hours only one day. Try it and let us know in the comments how it worked for you.
No More Vocabulary and Grammar Lists
Do you have nightmares with endless vocabulary lists or infinite grammar exercises? Us too. Traditional schools use books like these with too much unnecessary vocabulary and grammar. And why? Because these schools and books want to give you all the vocabulary that exists in Spanish. But you don’t need all the vocabulary to speak and communicate. On average, a person only uses about 300 words in their normal life. That’s why you should use the most important vocabulary for your life, and little by little add more words. It’s possible to say a lot with just a few words. And grammar? Oh, grammar. Traditional books have a lot of it, and especially grammar exercises that don’t work for learning. Grammar is just a tool for speaking. So, don’t focus on intensely studying grammar. Instead, speak a lot, and your grammar will gradually improve.
Language Courses, Yes, but with Few Students
So, practice a lot and communicate. But if you study in a language course with too many students and traditional methods, you won’t get good results. Why not? Very simple. When there are many students in a class, you don’t have time to talk and practice. And what’s the point of paying for a course if you can’t speak and improve? It’s better to look for a small group of 3 or 4 students at most because you will speak more and learn faster. That’s why our school, Linguarte, offers courses with a maximum of 4 students where you won’t stop talking in a fun environment.
Have Fun
Finally, have a fun time learning Spanish. Don’t worry if you can’t communicate perfectly or if you make mistakes. The fact that you can speak and connect with the people or culture that Spanish represents is what’s most important. Spanish connects many traditions, customs, and ways of thinking. So, enjoy each step in your learning process that allows you to get closer to our culture.
